Farewell Heights Veterinary Hospital

A few readers tipped us over the weekend to the fact that the Heights Veterinary Hospital at 59 Hicks Street has closed. A sign in the window refers pet patients to Dr. Greenberg at 85 Atlantic Avenue, 718-797-0070.

Iris Cafe offshoot – where??? Love the original.

DoM- Thanks for reminding me of those details. I had totally forgotten about them only being open on the weekend. One of the former owners of Heights Books (not the head owner, though) is a neighbor of mine, but it doesn’t appear that he’s interested in starting up anything like that again.

Point is, you’re right streetmate. Without a decent turnover, a used bookstore just will not be able to afford rent in the North Heights unless they’re willing to operate at a loss..

Speaking of used book stores… ever been to P.S. Books on Front Street in Dumbo? Great store, but their rent must be astronomic! They must be doing something right…

The space on Middagh and Hicks is NOT a boutique; it is an architect’s office. As to the possibility of a butcher or bakery, there is a high end butcher on Clark Street, equivalent to Lobel’s in Manhattan. Nearly all butchers have closed, as the nature of the food industry changes. Just as independent book stores, pharmacies, etc., are far fewer than they were. Where BH Cinema is now was once an independent hardware store; they’re all part of chains now.

Does anyone know if you can still get copies of your pet’s records from Heights Vet? Were they all provided to Dr. Greenberg? Thanks!

Oops sorry – just put my reading glasses on and read the note in the picture. Question answered.
