Suzanne Hart, Brooklyn Heights Resident, Dies in Midtown Elevator Accident

As reported in the New York Times “City Room” blog, Suzanne Hart, 41, a Heights resident and director of new business at the advertising agency Y&R, was killed when an elevator she was boarding at her employer’s headquarters at 285 Madison Avenue suddenly lunged upward. She shared her State Street apartment with her boyfriend, Chris Dickson. The Times quotes him: “She’s a beautiful person and I don’t have words for this, I loved her.”

Y&R and other firms had previously announced plans to move out of the building. According to the Times piece, a former Y&R official “described the elevators in the 85-year-old building as creaky and balky.” Update: The Wall Street Journal reports that maintenance work had been done on the elevator just hours before the accident.

My heart goes out to her family and friends. And to the two traumatized people who were trapped in the elevator and could do nothing to save her. May they all find peace as they grieve.
