Brooklyn Heights Girl Drowns in Boating Accident

Sad news from today’s NY Daily News.  Brooklyn Heights resident Alexandra Vitale, 3, drowned Tuesday after the boat she was riding on capsized in Long Island Sound:

New York Daily News: Brooklyn Girl…: “She was a beautiful, engaging little girl,” said Arthur Aidala, a close friend of Alexandra’s parents, Michael and Andrea Vitale, who live in Brooklyn Heights.

“She was out sailing before. I do know she knew how to swim. She was wearing a life preserver. It was just a tragic accident.”

The girl, who has a younger brother, Lucas, was spending the summer at the family’s vacation home in Westport, Conn.

The paper reports that the funeral will be held at 10am on Friday at Quaker Meeting Hall, 110 Schermerhorn Street.

The entire BHB Community extends it condolences to the family.  You’re in our thoughts and prayers.

My heart goes out to the Vitale family. I met little Alex when I lived for a short while in their building. She was beautiful, precocious and adored by her family.

3 year old getting sailing lessons on choppy waters was a totally negligent act. No room for argument on this one. What were the parents thinking?

There is no need to criticize the family during this incredibly difficult time for them. It is a sad and tragedic loss. One that can’t be replaced. So stop the negative comments and pray for the entire family.
