Obligatory Oprah Was On Remsen Street Post

Yeah, we know our pals at Bocoaland spotted Oprah here last week. Now, the Brooklyn Paper adds its coverage:

Brooklyn Paper: Oprah Winfrey journeyed to an orthodox Jewish congregation in Brooklyn Heights to take a gander at the shul’s state-of-the-art mikvah — a ritual bath for religious Jewish women.

“It’s a very spiritual thing,” said synagogue member Ed Weintrob. “You’re supposed to build a mikvah before you build a synagogue.”

Winfrey chose the “chosen people” to film a segment of her new TV show “Oprah’s Next Chapter,” and visited both Borough Park and Brooklyn Heights to hang out with some Hasidic Jews.

Residents gathered outside to catch a glimpse of the TV baroness, though, face it, jaded Brooklyn Heights residents have seen a few bold-faced names in front of the Remsen Street shul (yes, we are talking about you, former Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni!).

@Western Brooklyn – I never claimed it had nothing to do with it, but YOU claim it was the ONLY factor at play. If you asked any historian, straight up: “Did religion cause the Crusades?” There is not a single one of them who wouldn’t begin their response with: “Well, actually, the Crusades were caused by a number of factors…”

Your main point is that you think it’s your duty to tell anyone who isn’t an atheist that they’re supporting religious wars through their faith and praying (although you’re too much of a coward to stand outside a place of worship and tell your neighbors this to their face)- address that, why don’t you?

I can’t believe you’re all still quarreling with the great Master of Middagh and his 150 IQ. Can’t you see that you’re in the presence of a towering intellectual?

  • Master Of Middagh

@Tony- Finally, we can agree on something. The only thing that baffles me is why people who think I’m foolish would continue to spend their time fretting about me.

MoM Are you really trying to say “ethical” and “moral” are so different in their definitions, my argument has no merit; then in the next sentence accuse me of getting into semantics?

You also seem to have issues with reading comprehension, as I never said “if something is rude for one person, but not to another, then it isn’t rude” Please read my post again and try to comprehend what I am saying. According to you it seems; no one has the right to make a logical observation and criticize a topic, simply because you or others may feel its “rude”. That’s basically censorship and violates freedom of speech. Anyone is free to say whatever he or she wants to, you are free to agree or disagree. However, to say they didn’t have the right to say it in the first place is ridiculous. Huummm…. The censorship of ideas is one of the favorite instruments of religion.

@Arch Stanton- Yeah, they are different words. You can look them up if you like. So… you feel you have the “right” to come on here and call black people the “N” word? I assure you, you do not. This blog is moderated to a degree. It is NOT an exclusively public forum and a degree of what you call “censorship” is in place already, so why would you even try to argue that?

What is so difficult to understand about this concept- it is morally wrong to anonymously insult your neighbors based on the fact that they are not atheists? That’s racism. You don’t think racism is morally wrong? That’s an outlook you share only with your bigoted friends and not the public at large.

Claiming that the very act of being a person of faith causes religious wars and that such people should be ashamed of themselves is not a “logical observation” that deserves to be protected- it is a straight-up bigoted insult. You need to learn the difference.

You’re such a hypocrite. You think it’s censorship to complain about somebody making a bigoted remark. And when the person complains, you don’t think they have the right to do it. So… I have the right to be insulted, but not the right fight back or defend myself? That’s pretty pathetic reasoning…
