Pooch on the Loose: Help Find Jack (He’s Been Found!)

Jack the Dog has been found! Pet parent “Cheryl” tells us:

Hello! This is Jack’s owner. He is safe thanks to some folks with a few Frenchies and 2 NYPD officers who caught him, Monster Mutts in Cobble Hill, and a host of Mobile Mutts and other walkers and searchers.

He’s limping a bit and his paw pads took a beating, but he seems fine. A tremendous thank you to all the people who took some time to look, post here, or stop one of the searchers with a sighting.

And she sent BHB this photo of JtD chillaxin’ after his odyssey today.

The drama began this afternoon when we received this urgent dispatch just in from “Cheryl”:

Our dog Jack got away from his walker today. A pic is attached. He is 50 lbs, medium brown with a white belly and black muzzle. His collar is dark green. He’s a shepherd/ large hound mix. He does know the command “come here” and also sit and stay.

Jack is a rescue and can be fearful, so I recommend trying to put him on a leash if possible, as opposed to hauling him away by collar alone (and he may try to wiggle backwards and out of his collar if scared).

we live on clark and his general routes cover Middaugh – Joralemon, the Brooklyn Bridge Park walkway and the promenade, also Monroe ST. He regurlarly goes to Cheeky Dog, the Clark St. pet store and his vet is Vinegar Hill.

    Hi my name is Alex and I was one to help find Jack. I own a local dog walking company and I’m the Frenchie’s walker you mention. As I made my way towards Congress and Clinton I spotted a stray dog walking towards a group of tourists who were kind enough to stop Jack and greet him. I made my way over to see if I could help but we couldn’t make any sense of Jack’s tags. Since we couldn’t help Jack with just a quick phone call I made the decision to walk him towards VERG to see if he had a micro chip. Unfortunately, Jack became frightened and wiggled his way out of his collar and ran off. With the help of the the Louisiana tourists we chased Jack down the street but he was too quick. I made my way to VERG with Jack’s collar and my trusty sidekick “Oeuf” the Frenchie to see if any of the information on his tags would help find him. The team at VERG were very kind enough to check any records of theirs and call 311 but unfortunately were not successful. I then walked over to Monster Mutts and asked the front desk if they heard any news of a stray dog in the area. As soon as I said stray the front desk associate was quick to answer that she just received a call. The miracle came next as we see Jack in the possession of NYPD making his way into VERG. The front desk associate of Monster Mutts and I ran out to greet the police and made the connection that Jack was missing from his family and I had his collar. Very happy to hear that Jack is safe at home!

    I am the Monster Mutt woman you met. What an amazing job you did! I was more than happy to take him off the awesome NYPD’s hands and hold him and love on him until the equally awesome Mobile Mutts could pick him up and walk him home. He is such a sweet boy. He does love the back scritching:)

    Coincidentally, I was just leaving VERG with my dog when I saw Alex and the police officers coaxing Jack back into his collar. Very professionally done, very calm which was great for Jack. I heard them say he was a run-away and I am so glad that he was able to get back home!

    So glad Jack was found. Monster Mutt actually spotted an ad on the Gotmamist when I lost a dog about 6 months ago… I was dog sitting for 3 dogs and this horrible fiasco transpired one friday night and the little dog Zuzu was lost for 12 hours. I posted everywhere, ran around with a police escort…lucky the next day I called a series of vets in the neighborhood and pet shops. Monster Mutt comes to the rescue again along with Gothamist and the nice couple that found Zuzu and took care of her for the night.

    I am so happy that Jack is safe and I do hope Cathy that Beebop will be found as well.

    Dear Rerunruzbekistan : I respect keeping your name private. But when I saw where you said you live I know that you are the same person that connected me to Zuzu and the Gothamist. Thanks to people like you (and of course VERG and the NYPD officer that came to the rescue) dogs can be saved… You are a great neighbor and have a wonderful heart. Thanks to VERG and NYPD for also finding Jack…. such a nice story.

    Cathy–You said you thought some girl on Willow had taken Beebop in & it sounded like you knew which building. Any luck having a friend or someone try to go to the building and see if they could confront the girl/find Beebop?

    I have my suspicions but no concrete evidence. I would think by now that somebody would have to be living under a rock if they didn’t know they were keeping BeeBop. They may be too embarrassed to admit they have somebody’s pet. He may have been taken in after that first weekend thinking I was being careless and didn’t care about him His story and face have been posted everywhere between Craig’s List, vets, shelters, petfinder sites, FB and cat rescue groups. Somebody has to know or have seen something. BeeBop was not a lap cat and liked to hide even from me. If something bad had happened during that first weekend, I would think somebody in Willowtown would have seen something. He can’t be that far. I would love to go door to door. Is that against the law?
