Tree Limb Down on Columbia Heights

With the hard rains afallin’ today, a tree limb has come down on Columbia Heights midway between Clark Street and Pierrepont Street. Our BHB tipster adds:

This is the same tree we reported on a few months ago. We were told the Parks Department inspected it, and found it to be ok; no further action deemed necessary, and none taken.

Update (12:14pm):FDNY has cleared the tree from the roadway.

It was not a tree that came down, it was a huge limb of a tree, but big enough to have done a lot of damage. Fortunately, it did not damage any cars since it fell on the other side of the street. This is the same tree that had its roots damaged several years ago when the sidewalk was repaired from the upheaval the roots had caused.

A benefit of alternate side parking.

I’m not so sure that there was no damage. I saw a car with what appeared to be damage to the roof and side mirror with pieces of the branch on top of it. There were sheets of plastic covering part of the roof, perhaps to keep water out.

The Saab in the picture got damaged. Neighbors already cutting it up for firewood.

    Didn’t realize Saab’s made good firewood….(sorry, I had to!)

The falling limb landed on the side of the street where parking is allowed, and damaged two parked cars. This tree leans precipitously over the street, and has been the subject of complaints filed with Parks at least twice before: earlier this year when two sections from the same limb fell down, and about a year or so before then. Both times we were told the tree was inspected, and that no further action was deemed necessary.

That tree needs to come down before someone gets killed

Two big Parks Dept trucks and a man in a bucket working on it right now. Looks like they may be taking it down, or at least they are removing the big branches that hang over the street.

There are a couple of trees on Grace Court which are leaning and look quite precarious. They are on the south side of the street, roughly in the middle of the block. I just hope that no one gets hurt if they topple over.

Ann, that whole tree is a big branch hanging over the street. Thanks for the update! Hate to lose a tree on the block, but that one has become dangerous…

Tree is still there….city outsourced trimming to 3rd party tree company. They did a nice job of trimming it up but it’s only a matter of time with the other parts.
