    A brilliant comment

Fortunehag, What is the matter, you don’t know how to look where you’re walking? Beware, there are many worse “land mines” you can step on and odors you can encounter in NYC, than dog pee. You are obviously a hyper sensitive thin skinned wuss.

Re: the dog pee law: the same law that applies to humans urinating in the street applies to humans who allow their dogs to. I know of no instance where it’s actually been enforced though:

Admin Code §153.09 No person shall throw or put any blood, swill, brine, offensive animal matter, noxious liquid, dead animals, offal, putrid or stinking vegetable or animal matter or other filthy matter of any kind, and no person shall allow any such matter to run or fall into any street, public place, sewer, receiving basin or river, any standing or running water or into any other waters of the City as defined in §145.01.

  • travy

i for one shall throw my swill and brine wherever i like

  • Knight

It sounds like that last law was put on the books when the predominant animals in the Heights were horses & cows, not dogs & cats.

  • MontyPotter

    The actual health code reads:

Health Code § 161.03 Control of dogs and other animals to prevent nuisance.
A person who owns, possesses or controls a dog, cat or other animal shall not permit the animal to commit a nuisance on a sidewalk of any public place, on a floor, wall, stairway or roof of any public or private premises used in common by the public, or on a fence, wall or stairway of a building abutting on a public place.

The term nuisance is used to broaden a law, not narrow it. Nuisance is used rather than stating every possible thing a dog or cat could do that would be a nuisance.

I’m not sure why some dog owners think it’s their right to place their dog anywhere they see fit to urinate and defecate, including lifting their dogs into someones plantings to urinate on them. Urine is not fertilizer, it burns plant roots.

Some of us like to walk in our neighborhood and look at our surroundings and admire the beauty of Brooklyn Heights, not stare at our feet, looking for the maze of waste left behind by the uncaring.

At Vineapple there was a suggestion box. That seems like a good place for the music complaints. I want them to succeed.

I also would love to know what is going up in the old Mr. Souvlaki site. I am wishing for a noodle/dumpling and bubble tea place. Come on-how awesome would that be!!

  • zed leppelin

Dear people who complain about dogs,

Get over it, or find something more meaningful to complain about.

    Sincerely,
    the world

Nancy: I’ve heard that a “French/Vietnamese” restaurant is going into the Mr. Souvlaki site. Will try to confirm.

  • sunshinebk

I would rather see a sandwich place ( please dont say we already have one, lassen and hennings) Lassen and Hennings sucks… it’s expensive and flat out sucks. it would be so nice to have an actual sandwich place.

  • Knight

I agree, Sunshine. I live on Cranberry but I’d rather walk to BH Deli on State Street than get a sandwich from L&H.

  • http://www.teen-aged411.blogspot.com Nancy

Claude- I have heard that it is going to be Hanco, the place in Cobble Hill.

  • ColumbiaHeightster

@zed leppelin, THANK YOU!!! When you have this much time to complain about dog pee, you flat out have too much free time. Go be productive. Do something, anything. Rescue a dog.

  • Cathy

In case anybody didn’t know this, there is a law in New York regarding stealing a pet and anybody who knows of this action is required by law to attempt to get the information to the person seeking the pet back or they are viewed as an accomplice so please call 917-837-6899 if you know where BeeBop is. REWARD.

  • http://selfabsorbedboomer.blogspot.com Claude Scales

Nancy: I’m not familiar with Hanco. Is it good?

  • Fresh Pesto!!!!

Hey, I know this is unrelated… but it’s an open thread so here we go…

I just tried the Pesto at Catania and it’s spectacular. They make it with almonds, and you can buy it on pasta or just by itself to take home.

I don’t know of any other good source for pesto in the area. Trader Joe’s pesto is terrible. Damascus’ pesto is well below the quality of their other fine products. Bottom line, Western Brooklyn has a pesto shortage!!!

Is it lame that I’m excited about securing a solid fresh pesto supply? Probably. Don’t care.

    Try it out… it’s awesome.

    :)

  • GHB

Thanks! Not a pesto fan, but glad you could share your findings with us readers. Along the same lines, I’ve been getting peaches at Garden of Eden (!) all summer and they’re the best I’ve had in years. Only one so-so batch since the end of May.

Anybody interested in starting a jam session somewhere? I play keyboard (amatuer but with a good ear) and I would love to just play with people that have guitars, harmonicas, other keyboards…maybe some park that will allow it or someone’s basement.
I am a throwback to the 60s (loved woodstock) and would really enjoy this.
I think it would be fun. If there are any amateur musicians that just want to jam for a good time let me know.

    Cathy,

There was a cat in my hallway this morning clawing at my apartment door. No one in my building knows whose cat it is. What does BeeBop look like?

  • Cathy

BeeBop is a Tuxedo with a black dot on his right nose/mouth!

  • Cathy

Call me ASAP if it’s him please! THANKS.

Cathy, I’m about as sympathetic to animals as anyone, and I work regularly with cat rescue organizations.

If I recall correctly, you moved from the area and the cat is still here, yes? What else are you doing to get the cat back besides posting regularly here and relying on the neighborhood? Have you been back to do any legwork? Walked the neighborhood? Tried to contact the people who allegedly stole your cat?

  • Cathy

@NH: where do I begin to tell you?

  • Cathy

@NH: Email me at csfindbeebop714@gmail.com if you’d like.

  • http://wwwteen-aged411.blogspot.com Nancy

Claude-sorry for the delay in answering. From what I have heard, their sandwiches are amazing. They have places in Boreum Hill and Park Slope. I for one will welcome something just a little bit different in the nabe

  • PennyRC

    Cathy,
Sorry this guy is orange and white. Sorry for getting your hopes up I just wanted to make sure

  • Matthew Parker

    @Claude & Nancy:

I’m a regular at Hanco’s. Excellent Bahn Mi. And, IMHO, the best bubble tea in the City. It’s worth the walk to Bergen Street, right off Smith. I wish they would open in the Heights.

  • bklyn20

@Cathy — I just saw yesterday a photo (a baby picture?) of Bee-Bop on State Street. Could you post the photo here? I don’t think you’ve posted a photo before and that might help people to recognize your cat. Also, I would say that he has a mark resembling an apostrophe covering his nose and mouth, or al least that is what he looks like to me. Good luck, and I’ll keep watching out for him

  • Cathy

Thanks B-20, you have a good eye. Yes, that’s BeeBop’s baby pix. I have sent Homer a new one to post. I don’t know if it’s possible to post myself.
