    anyone* not anymore** damn computer

  • Jimmy R.

Fresh Direct trucks woke us up again this morning at 6 A.M.

We’ve just gotten used to it since there is nothing you can do about it.

  • Lee

@jimmy r- get the truck number and call them and ask for mark.

  • Lee

@van, i have lived here for 20+ yrs and shouldn’t have to be woken up at 6:20am on a Sunday by a FD truck. i tolerate the other noises, have your heard the noise from the garbage truck from the casino at 2am? every other noise is part of city living but should not have tolerate noises that should not be there to begin with?

  • Van

@Lee, I guess my answer to that is the city changes. We don’t live in a 9-5 world. Everything is on-demand 24 hours a day. That means Fresh Direct deliveries at 6 a.m. on a Sunday. Again, back my original point. You want quiet? Plenty of suburbs for ya.

  • Lee

@van, did i say i want quiet? all i want is not to be woken up at 6:20am on a sunday parked illegally at the hydrant. it wouldn’t be so bad if it was once in awhile but it is weekly. maybe you’re the one who has orders for 6am deliveries.

  • Lee

    @van, i can’t afford the suburbs or a car…

  • Van

@Lee, nope don’t order from Fresh Direct. Are the trucks who make deliveries to Key Food or CVS or the local stores, don’t they come at 6 am too? Like the noise of the city – this is an arguement that cannot be won. And there again, people like to complain so maybe that’s what driving you all. Ha, driving. Get it? Like a loud truck.

  • mlo

@sunshinebk –When the hooded man was following you from Urban Outfitters to River Deli you should have called 911 on your cellphone and reported that you were being follwed by a man wearing a hood. Now that its after the fact you should contact the precinct and let them know of the incident. This should be reported and go on record.

Time to get real people – that is 100% not harmless behavior – –

If I thought this guy was potentially harmless previously I now feel very differently. This type of action/behavior really changes any possibility that the guy is harmless. The police as well as the community must be made aware of this incident-as a matter of saftey.

  • Lee

@van, so you never get woken up by the noise or do just sleep so deeply that nothing wakes you? KF and CVS trucks don’t keep engines running, just make driving around neighborhood difficult. i don’t like to complain, it’s you who seems not to be bothered by noise consider yourself lucky.

  • harumph

@sunshinebk I really don’t think you have to defend your city/street smarts nor do I think it is necessary to ill wish so that your point is made. I do agree that you need to report this guy so that it is noted and, more importantly, if he attempts to do this again to someone and they report, the precinct will know there is a chronic problem and might do something about it. Sorry this happened – nothing worse then feeling unsafe in your own hood.

  • sunshinebk

Your right I shouldn’t ill wish on anyone. I just feel so frustrated because myself and others are always told we are being “crazy” ” scared white chicks” the list goes on. I’m over talking about this.. we’ve warned you all… we’ve told you to watch out. I have no idea if he’ll ever do anything but I just wanted other’s to know and be aware of their surroundings. Sorry if I offended anyone.

  • Montague

Totally with you Lee – enough of the Sunday 6:30AM Fresh Direct deliveries!!! Maybe we should put cones on the street in front of the hydrant (or one of those blue police road block things), so they can’t park and idle there illegally.

  • Just A Neighbor

Sunshine, stop apologizing. You’re only diminishing yourself and your argument. You’re not sorry, you had something to say and you said it. f others disagree, then so be it. On behalf of the females out here who heed these types of warnings, we thank you.

    Moving on, now..

  • nabeguy

Van, as someone who has lived in the Heights for 55 years and is, in fact, moving to the suburbs, I think you’re dead wrong to think that noise of this kind is the “city” norm. I’ll grant you that this is an ever-changing and evolviing metropolis, but that’s no reason to accept changes that make our lives miserable. I know transplants like to adopt a “been there, seen it all” attitude to establish their urban credibility, but it’s the true natives that are trying to make this place habitable.

  • bornhere

Another reminder of why I will miss nabeguy. Great good luck, PW, to you and your family!

  • Karl Junkersfeld

    bornehere/jan,

As per your request about Fulton Street before Cadman Plaza, see if this helps.

  • Karl Junkersfeld

Bornhere and Jan, look at link above. I had a typo.

  • Andrew Porter

Saw a sales guy from New York Life Insurance set up, with big sign, table in front of him, on the Promenade this morning, soliciting sales. Told him that this was not acceptable activity on the Promenade. Helped that the Parks Dept. gardner was working just behind him, and he agreed with me.

I caught flack from two nannies who took me to task, but when I walked by again minutes later, the sales guy was gone.

If there are any fans of the St. George Swimming Pool’s former glory, or of art deco tiles, there are three buckets of these in front of Nabeguy’s house, at 56 Middagh Street, there free for the taking. I got two samples, one full of brilliant yellow tiles. Nabe, aka Phil Wilentz, has departed for his [Long] Island retreat, so don’t know how much longer these will be there.

  • Eddy de Lectron

Andrew, Thanks for the tip. I got most of what was left… I am a fan of the St George pool and remember it well… Do you know if the tiles are from the mural that was recently demolished?

  • Knight

Mr. Porter, why can’t an insurance salesman set up a table on the Promenade? Maybe you don’t like him being there but doesn’t he have that right? Other vendors sell their products there.

  • Arch Stanton

Me thinks, Knight is not too bright.

I continue to take offense that a man who has done nothing more than prominently inhabit the neighborhood is being described as a “menace.”

Has he ever said anything threatening? Or said anything at all?

Has he behaved in an aggressive manner?

Maybe you find him suspicious…but menacing?

    Moving on.

Does anyone here really think that suburbs are quiet? Snow blowers, lawn mowers, children playing in yards, any number of
maniacal birds chirping in the early morning gloaming…quiet???

And I am with all of you that suggest that Fresh Direct goes way way way beyond any normal, acceptable, part-of-life big city noise. Anything that goes on for upwards of 20 minutes, during hours in which it’s usually forbidden to make tons of street noise, at a volume that makes radio listening or television watching or phone talking impossible…No. Unacceptable.

  • bornhere

Karl — Wow. And thank you! “IT” isn’t in there, from what I can see, but the great view of Semple’s almost makes me forget my latest obsession.

  • nabeguy

Yes, Eddy, those tiles were from the mural. Last I checked, there was still one bucket left by the garbage area in front. And if you’re really ambitious (and stealthy), I believe there are two parts of the ceramic columns from the roof garden stored underneath the stoop. But you didn’t hear that from me, as I am now the ex-owner.

  • since47

Karl — thank you so much! I finally found it the second time through. I’m going to have to go to the BHSociety and spend some time there.

And bornhere — pause at 2:02 and you’ll see it.

    Thank you again, Karl!

    URGENT NEWS FLASH…..URGENT NEWS FLASH…..URGENT
Friend of mine who lives on Willow just got off the plane from Greece today. He and his family own something like 50 mil. In property in the Heights/Downtown Manhattan area. Not a major
player, but a honest solid guy
    .
He called me over and used his 1000 + channel Sat antenna to show me What’s going on in Greece today (Thirs.) in real time. A lot of this is Video is also available off the net*. The Govt. is coming apart AND a lot of the former establishment pols are OPENLY calling for (real)defiance of the IMF, World Bank and The BIS…and the EU summit is what, next Thirs?

Hey, this could seriously damage or possible change all the reference points.Never mind what the WSJ or FT says…Now
people are seriously asking what is this ‘turn over your country
or we’ll wreck everything’ stuff. The New York/London/you know where tirdent is making serious noises of MILITARY intervention
and the Greek pols and public are telling everyone to bring it on!!
WOW what news coverage. A LOT by NON Greek TV crews
    with eng subtitles.

Uh, time to think of being in some tangibles, precious metals,
(perhaps) Non GMO foods/seeds, “security equipment” etc.

If you could see the interviews I’m seeing, a lot of you over 45 would be wondering if this goes bad (or good) if Anybody’s going to have anything but min.work of a (possibly) long while.

    * A number of anti IMF/WB/BIS and anti bailout sites with origins both inside and outside of Greece have become “difficult” to access in the last 48 Hrs….

  • Linda

    North Heights Res,

A young lady mentioned that she had been followed by the man in question wearing the hoodie that nearly covers his entire face.
She was FOLLOWED several blocks and you say this is not enough to be considered menacing?
    I beg to differ.

  • Linda

    Nabeguy,
Please continue posting from your deck chair on the bay on LI.
    Your comments are invaluable.
PS: Looking forward to retiring in a few years and most likely not staying in the Heights. I have loved living here for the past six years but the threat of being run down by a diaper clad toddler riding a scooter right up my you know what is getting to be too much for me!

  • Just A Neighbor

Can someone suggest a notary public in BKH please?
