Did anyone else hear a loud bang around 12:30 AM in North Brooklyn Heights? Scared the heck out of me, and I couldn’t have been the only one to hear it.
Billy Reno
An amazing photograph! Pray, would this happen to be a Frank Gehry erection?
GHB
No, and I was still up then. Hmmm…

Vicki, I heard the bang (12:38 AM, as I recall). It’s a mystery!

GHB: are you replying to Vicki or Billy Reno?
Dave
Just another check if anyone knows of a nice 2 bedroom for rent in their building! Lemme know if you know of one in the heights! thanks!

@Claude: That was good!

Does anyone know where I can find a schedule of fireworks events on the East River for this summer? I know the Target/South Street Seaport fireworks are scheduled for Saturday, June 18th but want to know what else is happening this summer since Macy’s July 4th show will be on the Hudson again this year. Will we be able to see any fireworks from the Heights on the 4th?

We’re getting into peak summertime transformer/manhole fire time. I wasn’t monitoring last night, but I’m not aware of anything catastrophic or unusual, so I’d tend to think that was the source of the explosion.
Cranberry Beret
It sounded like transformer explosion. Lights dimmed briefly on cranberry.
Heather
Vicki – I heard the bang too…..scary!!! I checked Gothamist and everything, couldn’t find any info, so probably a transformer explosion.

Any recommendations for a basement waterproofing contractor?
Vicki
Thanks everyone – I hope that was my first transformer explosion, then, and not the other crazy scenarios that were going through my head.

Heard it and really frightened me. Couldn’t get back to sleep for a time afterward. Thanks for confirming I wasn’t hearing things. Initially I thought it was my neighbor slamming his door. Was in a confused state.

Reporting from the lounge at Vineapple: cold brewed coffee, bagels, treats and a beautiful spacious seating area. Grateful Dead Monopoly is available as well.
Homer Fink
@monty — wifi?
Nancy
They advertise free wifi… Just putting it out there that I had dinner at Seasons last week and the food was very good. After all the knocks, I didn’t know what to expect. We had the prixe-fixe; one order of the hangar steak, and one of the pasta. The wine was excellent and the service was great. I will be back

I miss Bread and Butter. Methinks Seasons will see its own winter within a year’s time.
Does anyone know the latest on the Clark Street promenade sinkhole situation?
Hicks and Middagh
I heard the bang last night! It was at 12:40 almost on the nose and I jumped out of bed ready to evacuate. Couldn’t find anything online until just now! Thank you for posting about it, and if there’s any follow up on what it was, I’d love to know.
Jimbob
Unfortunately, Vineapple looks to be a huge disappointment in the neighborhood.
Why can’t anyone bring a nice establishment to the area with good atmosphere, food and service?
The decor in this place is a joke and I am guessing will be gone in a year?
Brooklyn Heights is so lost when it comes to opening anything for people under 90…
GHB
Claude, Vicki. Hicks and Middagh, ready to evacuate your building or your bowels?

So, I’ve been very excited to try the new B&B Empire bagel place as I’ve been looking for a new bagel shop. Stopped by earlier today and my bagel with cream cheese was good, but the service was painfully slow. There were only 2 young people working behind the counter and they clearly lacked any training (not their fault). They seemed to be at a complete loss to even figure out how to pack up my bagel to go. I wish them well, the food definitely has potential and the neighborhood could use a new good bagel shop, but they need to get someone behind the counter who can run the place efficiently. It took over 10 minutes to get my bagel and there was only 1 customer in front of me.

Josh G: still waiting for word from the City Parks Dept. on the sinkhole.

Wallard: once upon a time there was a restaurant in that very space called “Rock Pasta” (talk about al dente was all I could think). It lasted barely a year.
Nancy
Rock Pasta>>>I remember that winner. It certainly wasn’t worth the hike up the stairs.

Jimbob, quit trollin’. The decor is great and very unique. It’s clearly a cafe/lounge and not a restaurant because they don’t have any meals on offer, just snacks and drinks. Service was quick and friendly. If you don’t like it, then i’m I won’t be seeing you there.

I heard the loud explosion at 12:40 AM as well. The entire house vibrated.
