On Columbia Heights, just north of Cranberry, there seems to be water seeping up through the road (or maybe a manhole?) It’s been going on for weeks, constantly flooded. Calls to 311 are as useless as calls were about the Promenade sprinklers which led to the sinkhole at the Clark Street entrance. Anybody know what’s going on there?

  • AEB

Great drawing, above. Is Mr. Basner a local gent? (Or even alive?)

  • Ari

Was so happy to see 4 public garbage cans on Hicks and Joralemon.

    One on each corner.

    That was Sunday.

Down to 2 as of this morning.

  • Dave

Thanks AEB! I am not only a (living) local, but that’s my building!

  • GHB

I love that building! Nice drawing, Dave

  • Heightsman

Is it me or are fewer and fewer people actually posting on BHB these days?

  • AEB

Ah, Dave! 2 + 2 = 4! So to speak. Great work, great building!

  • Dave

    Thanks guys!

  • sunshineBK

anyone get a free cone yesterday ?!

  • Gerry

    GHB,

I did not know that it was the sprinkler system on the Promenade that caused the sinkhole?

At the end of the Promenade by me on Montague Terrace the sprinkler is allways going and often it is flooding near the park benches so that one must sit with thier feet/shoes in a puddle of water.

    @heightsman – just you.

  • Heightsman

7 of the last 8 topics that were posted have zero comments….it can’t just be me Homer…..nice try though.

  • David on Middagh

The nice weather is reducing Internet screen time all around, I think.

  • harumph

@Heightsman – general lameness or allergies. personally speaking, I feel like crap from all the pollen – the energy it is taking me to write just this is tremendous!

  • GHB

Gerry, last spring the sprinklers near where the sinkhole appeared were kept on around the clock for an entire weekend. And for weeks, the water kept leaking out, even when they were off. I’m sure that it contributed to the sinkhole. It really pissed me off, because I called 311 repeatedly and was given the runaround. “We’ll put in a report, but it can take 5 days for something to be done.” That’s a help!

@heightsman – not the most sexy comment generating topics.

  • kac

Sorry, I couldn’t hear you over the jackhammer on Grace Court Alley (at least I think that’s where it’s coming from). More than six hours so far today and several hours yesterday. A necessary evil, but it’s starting to get to me.

  • T.K. Small

@Homer: “not the most sexy comment generating topics”? Yesterday the true meaning behind my mirror over the stove was revealed. It doesn’t get much steamier than that.

  • Topham Beauclerk

    @kac

One of the newly sold carriage houses on Grace Court Alley is getting a new roof, the work having started yesterday.

I find the following annoying this week:

    Brooklyn Heights Association
Court Street between Montague and Atlantic
    Heights Casino
    Brown Harris Stevens
    Lassen & Hennigs

  • Wallard

@Sky, L&H guy today said they once again didn’t have grapefruit juice and wouldn’t have any until tomorrow, on account of the fact that their citrus delivery had only come in this morning. Can we not get rid of the yogurt parfait bar or oatmeal stand and bring back the automated juicer?

  • sunshineBK

sky- I like your style.. , let me add a few to the list

Clark st station ( THE ELEVATORS, yes it’s polite to hold the door…but at some point you just have to let them close, that is until some jack ass forces himself in and holds up the elevator for another countless 5 mins)

I know a lot of BHB readers are big fans of Jack the Horse so I thought I’d share that TownHog (a Groupon like site) has a deal of $40 worth of food for $20. http://bit.ly/mc6PKx

  • Hicks St Guy

big fan of Jack the Horse food, the service, though, is laughably lame.

  • AnnOfOrange

Lack of entries that are conducive to comments may make it seem like neighbors aren’t reading BHB, but I and I am sure others find the announcements very informative. Please keep these important features. (Have you ever considered a weekly counter of blog viewers?)

How about Open Threads more than once/week, including a suggested topic of local or general interest.

Anyone else notice dead birds recently? I found a small bird with black and white checkerboard chest feathers and another larger bird with grayish back and greenish chest feathers, within a couple of days of each other.

This should get people talking – Just in from Daniel Squadron’s office:

“Tourist helicopter noise is still a big nuisance in Brooklyn. This weekend I’m joining with our neighbors, community leaders, and elected officials to say: enough is enough! Come out to Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pier 6 this Sunday at 1PM as we rally to end all tourist helicopter flights from the Downtown Manhattan Heliport. To RSVP and for more info, contact my office at 718-802-3818 or adelisi@nysenate.gov.”

I like this guy a lot.

  • tb

    sky,
you are still a douche bag.

  • Jorale-man

@sunshineBK – so true – it doesn’t help that those elevators are ancient relics from another era.

I see the new Montreal bagel shop at Atlantic and Clinton now has signage up on its storefront. It’s supposed to open by the end of the month apparently.

  • harumph

@MM thanks for the heads up – that is a deal!

  • Homer Fink

@annoforange – I’ve thought of doing daily open threads – but themed. Wednesday would still be general, Thursday could be real estate, Friday food/restaurants etc…

would like to hear thoughts on topics etc…
