Second Week in the Piazza, Will it be Better?

Last Sunday’s launch of a car-free summer piazza on Montague Street was under-whelming for many. In this week’s Brooklyn Paper, the BHA’s Judy Stanton blames the city for not supplying enough chairs, while Montage BID’s Chelsea Mauldin says everything went according to plan. The paper also mentions that Heights Books doubled its usual Sunday business thanks to the piazza. This week Yoga People [160 Montague Street] will hold a free class in front of their building at 11AM and the folks at the New York Kids Club on Henry Street will hold a free art class for kids.

What do you think? Will the second time be the charm for the Great Montague Piazza Experiment?

And now… in honor of the Piazza, one of Claude Scales’ favorite songs:

The grand Piazza experiment will probably do a bit better this weekend as relatively more people will be in town compared to the long weekend. However I do not think that doing the downward dog yoga move on the pavement or finger painting with kids will be much of a draw…let me know when the beer garden opens

What about moving some of the greenmarket sellers to Montague for the next piazza day?

They’d be a genuine draw–and have something of genuine interest to sell.

Walked by the Piazza experiment – take II a couple of times…once at 11am and again about 5pm. Maybe I missed the surge, but seemed to basically be a flaming paper bag on the doorstep once again…
