@Tony – I was there on March 13th and personally witnessed the police barricade being put into place at 11:00 am. The street was opened as soon as the equipment was removed at about 4:00.

The permit was obtained and the street was closed. Even if there was only one child outside, it’s not for you to judge whether or not it was excessive.

  • Tony

I was referring to the parking ban, Jewess, and there was not a single car parked on Remsen Street all day Sunday. As for your contention that it’s not for me “to judge,” I beg to differ. This is my community too and I’m permitted to comment when a public street is closed off for a private affair. At least the other religious festivals in the neighborhood (Our Lady of Lebanon’s, for example) allow the whole community to participate.

I hate for this to be buried on this thread, but I suspect more people are reading it than the others.

If anyone from the neighborhood that he died protecting would like to thank Police Officer Alain Schaberger and his family, the funeral info is as follows:

Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons Funeral Home
    200 East Main Street
    East Islip, New York 11730
    Friday March 18th
    9:30 am
    Interment
    Long Island National Cemetery
    2040 Wellwood Ave
    Farmingdale, New York 11735

@WillowtownCop–thanks for this information. My thoughts will be with his family, friends and colleagues tomorrow.

@Tony–the Purim festival on Remsen on Sunday was open to the entire community, and I’m sure they would have loved to have had more people there. (I’m not sure that it was promoted as well as it could have been. My daughter and I happened upon it on our way home from church.) Maybe you should have stopped by and bought a cupcake–it might have improved your mood.

  • Jewess in the Heights

Thank you for your endorsement @cat. There were fliers up around the neighborhood including ones on the Lady of Lebanon fence. @ Tony – all of our events are open to the public. Next time, stop by for a hammantashen and a pony ride. It was a lot of fun.

@cat Threading at 110 Montague Street is reasonably priced considering the location ($7 for eyebrows) Laila the owner speaks english very well and was there to get your thoughts across to her employee who indeed didn’t speak english very well. Let me know what you think if you do decide to go.

  • Big Dave

@Hicks St Guy, I appreciate the comeback. Considering all that we have to deal with and think about and well, you’ve heard it before…

Japan needs our good thoughts and, if you pray, our prayers.

@Jewess in the Heights, my dd is a fool for the bouncy house, so she had a wonderful time. Was there an announcement for the festival on this blog? If not, might be a good place to promote it in the future.

@Alana, thanks for the info–I will definitely check it out. Good price and maybe I can just make an appt. with the owner.

@Big Dave–I pray for Japan, and for this earth we all inhabit. May we all remember that the earth is a gift to us and treat it well.
