It’s Official: Snow Emergency

This from Notify NYC:

The Mayor has issued a Weather Emergency Declaration for NYC. The public is urged to avoid all unnecessary driving for the duration of the storm and use public transportation. For info on MTA service visit http://www.mta.info. Any vehicle found blocking roadways or impeding ability to plow streets will be towed at owner’s expense. Alternate Side Parking, payment at parking meters, and garbage collection are suspended citywide until further notice.

Thanks to reader AAR, who adds: “Alas, this comes after most people in the north Heights (legally) have put out garbage and recycle for Wednesday pickup! Hope that this doesn’t foreshadow more snow related problems.”

1.12 update: alternate side parking rules remain suspended tomorrow, Thursday, January 13, but parking meters are back in effect.

Twice this evening I’ve heard snow plows coming down my street in the North Heights.

It was obvious to me early Tuesday morning that the garbage and recycles would not be collected Wednesday – especially since they did recycles Sunday and regular garbage Monday. Anything put at curbside would just be in the way for snow removal!
