Update: Sources claim that a resident of the dorm did die after a fall from the St. George and that the incident may have been related to the use of so-called “magic-mushrooms”.

From the reports, it sounds like this might have involved a student resident of the St. George. Regardless of whether it was a suicide or an accident, it’s a tragic loss of a young life.

wow that is so horrible. Does anyone know about what time this was?

Horrible indeed, but sadly nothing new for that building. Back in the 70’s & 80’s when The George was a SRO hotel, there were numerous suicide jumpers… I remember one that jumped out a back window, went through the roof of the arcade and laded on top of the token booth.

I almost got hit by a jumper in the Time Warner Center just after it opened. He jumped from the 4th floor onto the marble on a busy afternoon. Innocent people could have been killed.

This “victim” was an adult and he chose to put everyone on the street at risk by either taking drugs and falling or jumping, not to mention the grief he’s putting his family, friends, and traumatized witnesses through right now. My sympathy button has not been pushed with this one.

@wc – actually the TWC story was quite sad, a few of us worked with his sister and this was an awful tragedy:

I was going to Fordham Law at the time, and was killing time at the mall in between classes. I was on my way from Tourneau to Williams Sonoma and he landed about 10 feet in front of me. I’ve seen jumpers before and since (years ago, I saw one go off the Golden Gate bridge) but that one has stuck with me. The only worse thing I’ve ever seen when I wasn’t working was a girl in Coney Island maybe two years ago who was running in between subway cars- she slipped and got ripped in half by the train.

Anymore info on the student that died?

Just sad. A tragic loss of life. Sad for the other students who live in the building and an unfortunate bad mark on the residence.

Oh my! Whatever the reason this is such sad news. Another young life lost. My sympathy goes out to the family and friends…just so tragic…

And, though like others I find myself wanting more information the family has a right to privacy.

It is probably just an unfortunate juxtaposition that a large display ad for “Twitter Special” litres of Absolut Brooklyn Vodka appears directly to the right of the article about the unfortunate death of an EMS dorm student whose fall out of a dorm window was possibly caused by “magic mushrooms” or other chemical substances.

As we all know, only the more mature, senior, responsible imbibers among us use Twitter to learn about discounted alcohol sales at the liquor store directly next to the dormatory entrance.

I spoke with the night clerk at Penny Bridge, who said he was outside smoking when it happened. Said he thought it was a falling air conditioner… At first.

He also said it did not look like a party was going on… That he seemed to have been alone in the room.

    So sad.
