Underground Railroad

Amazing what one finds in the streets of New York. This manhole cover originally belonging to the Brooklyn Heights RailRoad dates to between 1893 and 1919. The BHRR was one of the operating companies controlled by the Brooklyn Rapid Transit Co.

The BHRR ran a trolley line that went up Montague St. from the waterfront to somewhere downtown. Do you know where this manhole cover is, or where there are any others?

I like the “A for Anarchy” superimposed over this picture.

I don’t know about this pic specifically, but there is such a manhole cover in the Borough Hall plaza (officially Columbus Park) near the elevator to the 7th Avenue IRT station.
