Bouwerie Boys Morris Dancing On the Brooklyn Heights Promenade

The Bouwerie Boys, a New York based morris dance troupe, were performing on the Promenade yesterday afternoon. Morris is a style of folk dancing that originated centuries ago–it’s mentioned in Shakespeare–in the Cotswolds region of England. Some authorities believe it originated in pre-Christian Celtic, or Druidic, fertility festivals.

Morris dancing on the Promenade has become a more recent tradition: see here and here.
