Trader Joe “Controversy”

The "editorial" staff at Cobble Hill Blog seems to be having some "fun" with the recent controversy surrounding the opening/not opening of the Court Street Trader Joe's:

Cobble Hill Blog: Responding to last week’s “anonymous” comment on CHB, Brownstoner actually picked up a telephone and talked to TwoTrees.   Yes, “Mr. B” (we’re big fans) has the ability to do such things as “fact checking” because THE BLOG IS HIS JOB. Us? We have to wear slacks during the day and work for the man. Read more

I really hope they open this in the nabe. Not sure if anyone else has noticed, but Key Food raised their prices since the New Year. My grocery bill went up over 30%!!!

  • CJP

Actually didn’t notice the price increases at Key Food specifically but wouldn’t surprise me. Everything is going up. Commodity prices are soaring, oil recently surpassed 100 dollars a barrel before pulling back and labor costs are higher.

While I can’t fault Key Food for passing along the higher costs that they’re facing it does speak volumes about the economic crisis this country is facing.

And a thought on this primary day. Wasn’t one of the arguments for going to war to make sure we had democracy in the Middle East thus ensuring fair and stable oil prices?

Well when you have Bush jr for president nothing works out as envisioned. Whenever the press calls him the MBA president, I have an image of him in a Dilbert cartoon. Harvard should be embarrassed every time the mention of his MBA comes up.

Back on topic: I’ll be sad if TJ doesn’t come. I’ve been looking forward to buying their salsa and frozen mexican food.

And speaking of new stores and vacant spaces. Anyone know what’s going in in that big basement space at Clark and Pineapple? Looks like guys are in there now putting up walls and lighting, even though there’s still a ‘for rent’ sign on the window.

  • CJP

    Make that Henry and Pineapple.

I’ve noticed it but have no idea. I note that the retail space on the north side of Clark that had the “For Rent” signs on it is now an office, likely for NYU’s Student Residence.

I heard the opening was push back to sept. to nov. 08
