Candidate Thies: Obama Could Take Brooklyn

Evan Thies, who is one of several candidates vying for David Yassky's seat in the City Council is part of a story in today's NY primary coverage in the Daily News:

New York Daily News: Brooklyn Barack: North Brooklyn activist Evan Thies, a former Clinton staffer who is also neutral, thinks Obama could even win the borough.

"I think my district is going to go overwhelmingly for Obama," said Thies, who is running for the seat of his ex-boss, City Councilman David Yassky (D-Williamsburg, Brooklyn Heights), in 2009.

"Obama might win Kings County," added Thies, though he said Clinton will still take the city.

I also think Obama has a good chance of winning Brooklyn. Most Democrats who moved to Brooklyn in recent years came here because they wanted a real & better change in their lives. They’re also young (under 45) which make up a large percentage of his supporters. A large percentage of African-Americans will probably support him as well. So Brooklyn and maybe the Bronx will probably yield him the best results in the city.

    That would be fantastic!

  • Joe

I plan on voting for him. I think many under 40’s democrats will.

Looks like the under 40’s democrats just didn’t have the juice. According to the NYT, Hillary won Brooklyn by four percentage points.

However, according to the county-by-county return map provided on the NYT’s Website: http://politics.nytimes.com/election-guide/2008/results/states/NY.html

it appears that Obama came the closest to beating Hillary in Bklyn.

    Close, but no Tiparillo.

This 41 y.o. voted for my girl Hillary.
