Martin Schneider, Heights Preservationist, to Premiere Short Documentary and Book on BHB Monday

BHB is honored to host the online premiere of  a short documentary film, “Brooklyn Is My Neighborhood/ The Story of New York’s First Historic District”  produced by Heights Hero Martin L. Schneider and our own Karl Junkersfeld.    It  and its companion book (in PDF format) will be available here Monday April 5.

Fifty years after the battle to landmark Brooklyn Heights began, there are still preservation and quality of life challenges  to be dealt with –Dock Street DUMBO, the Poplar Precinct quagmire etc.– and the story of CCIC, Schneider, Otis Pearsall and their triumph over Robert Moses and “slum clearance”  will forever be an inspiration.

BHB is also profoundly influenced by the independent spirit of the late Richard J. Margolis, publisher of  The Brooklyn Heights Press from 1956 – 1960.

Their example inspires and guides us every hour of every day here at BHB.

Nice way to usher in Spring 2010. Now tell us where we can call up this fine piece … or buy a DVD of it … or even attend a one-time showing of it. I’ll be there, all polished up! Will it be available at the Historical Society or on-line? I’m sure it’ll have interested buyers.
