Brooklyn Flea Won’t Return to DUMBO

Heights residents hankering for bargain goods and the best lobster rolls this side of Hyannis won’t be able to satisfy that craving this year just by taking a short Sunday hike down Squibb Hill (and a seemingly much longer one back up). Because of extensive construction activity in the vicinity, the Brooklyn Flea will not return to the lot in DUMBO, directly beneath the Brooklyn Bridge.

NYC Rentals: As readers of the Diner’s Journal blog are already aware, the upcoming Brooklyn Flea season will be a little different than last year. As usual, we’ll be moving back outdoors to our flagship location at Bishop Loughlin in Fort Greene on Saturdays starting April 10. On Sundays, however, rather than head back to Dumbo where construction along Water Street has created too many potential headaches for a regular market underneath the Brooklyn Bridge this year, we are going to stay put in the Williamsburgh Savings Bank space at One Hanson. While we are really sorry not to be in Dumbo, where we have received so much support from officials at Brooklyn Bridge Park and the Dumbo BID, we are also excited to continue our residency at the architecturally-stunning space where we’ve spent the winter. It’ll also be nice not to be so weather-dependent!

It begins and ends with Pizza Moto. I will miss it dearly. Ironically, I used to live up the block from Bishop Laughlin.

However, the Green Market will likely return to the foot of Main Street. That’s where I’ve been getting my weekly fix of Orwasher’s Rye read and Onion Rolls.
