I’ve read this blog saying that Fascati was good, the best in Brooklyn Heights. I went there on Monday — closed. People next door said that they’re so busy on the weekend they take Monday’s off. I took that as a good sign.

Today I had two slices from two different pies. It was ordinary. It’s an acceptable neighborhood joint but nothing special. Di Fara’s and Spumoni’s are worth going out of your way for. Unless I came on a bad day there isn’t any reason to go out of your way for Fascati.

It’s a decent local joint but one among many.

Forgot to mention — the cheese and sauce was better than average but the crust was on the low side of average. Again, maybe it was a bad day.

    One among many?

    “One amoung many”

OK, So I was unclear. :-)

Fascati is a decent place, but one among many decent places in Brooklyn: example Anthony’s and Smiling Pizza in Park Slope.

It’s not bad but no reason to go out of your way for.

We just tried Fascati’s pizza (delivered). It was terrible! Very bland, no taste or spice to the sauce. Even had sausage, tomato, and mushrooms on half–meat had no taste, mushrooms canned. If this is the best in Brooklyn–go to Manhattan.

Why do people love Grimaldi’s? I hate it. And every time I get baited by a friend to try it again, it fails. Maybe the crust is a great consistency…I could give u that. BUT, there is no taste. It’s like there’s no salt in it. No flavor. For that sytle of pizza, Lombardi’s does it about 100x better.

    Grimaldi loves…pls don’t be mad…EXPLAIN yourselves! thanks!

Bklyn Native, I reread your advice as well as many on chowhound before going to Di Fara and as you and many others stated it was pure theater. Many thanks for the great advice.

The pizza was really really good. I think it could have been the best I ever had if he didn’t do the final anointment of olive oil. I find that made the pie very greasy and I couldn’t eat more than two slices. But I think its a personal preference thing. I’ll try it again when I have another afternoon free but will try the squares which I heard great things about. Right now Lucalis and Di Fara are tied for 1st place.

As for Fascati the pies are not as good as the slices. Its not a destination but a great neighborhood place.

Grimaldi’s has seen its better days. Would still be a good/ok pie if you didn’t have the hassle of the long wait and the terrible service.

SS…spot on, and always get talked back into goingGrimaldi’s sucks, except their fennel sausage! Not a shred of love in their service, their pie, none.

…but ouch Lombardis, just moved to BH from Eliz Street and Lombardis was gross 10/10 times. Soaking wet crust.

Lucali is amazing, Spumoni eh, Frannys wow, DiFara…holy shit.

    New Haven…

Randazzo’s Pizzeria was one of the best. It was located on Henry between Montague & Remsen, where Cocoran is now. It was a family business of three brothers who ran the pizzeria/restaurant. They should re-open. If anyone hears about them they should let everyone know!!!!

Slimey’s in Park Slope??? (aka Smiling Pizzeria) I grew up in the Slope, and we always called it Slimey’s…undercooked, doughy, way-too-much-cheese. Eeew. Best in the Slope is Roma Pizza, 7th Avenue by Lincoln Place.

I vote for Di Fara… I lived around the corner during my stint in Brooklyn and it is heaven next door!

I think Monty Q’s (Both of them, new one on LIVINGSTON ST.) Blows away everything else in the area. If you haven’t tried the new Monty Q’s give it a try. As a bonus the people working there are actually nice and a pleasure to deal with. Give it a try you might find a new favorite place.

P.S. Delivery in my experience has been quick & Hot when you get it…

Was wondering if Queen’s Pizza is still there in Brooklyn Heights.

    thanks

You have got to try the new Ignacio’s pizza around the corner from Grimaldi (strategically placed I’m sure) I have always loved Grimaldi’s but sorry to say Ignacio’s is my new place to go.

Luv Luv Luv it! Try it!
