I was on the bridge that night, preparing to propose to my girlfriend of 4 years. I had the speech all worked out and distracted her just enough to fish the ring out of my pocket. Well needless to say when we heard the commotion and saw the car engulfed in flames we hustled towards manhattan just in case the car exploded! Her father was a firefighter who passed away 2 weeks before, and when the fire trucks were below I asked her if this is a sign that he gives he is with us (he died the day we came to visit him with the purpose of my proposing). She believed this was the case and so even with modified plans, I still felt it was the right time and place. Weird huh?
