“A Novel Kitchen” Opens on Atlantic Avenue

A new combination café and used book and record store, A Novel Kitchen, has opened at 151 Atlantic Avenue, between Clinton and Henry streets, on the Brooklyn Heights side. Their menu features a wide variety of dishes suitable for breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner, combining influences of many different cuisines.     Is it substituting sourdough for rye that you consider blasphemous, or is it the caramelized onions?

    I get it! I have a friend who liked to imagine the most traif recipes possible, like a kosher hot dog with melted cheese and bacon bits.

    If they kept the Swiss cheese and added sauerkraut, they could call it a Rueben.

    With the exception of actual Middle Eastern food, I can’t think of too many “Kosher” recipes that wouldn’t be improved by non-Kosher modifications. Good on them! (However, the best cheese to put on a pastrami sandwich is in fact pepper jack.)

    Not what I implied. I don’t care about kosher vs. non-kosher. Just what doesn’t go together, like Pastrami on white bread with mayo…

    You’re describing what starts to sound like a Venetian sandwich. We have a friend who set up such a shop on Houston called Tramezzini, highly recommend if you ever get over the river.
