Did anybody else get a sidewalk violation notice from the DOT? They are giving us 45 days to fix our sidewalk but the issues that they flagged are related to the bluestone that Landmarks requires. Our bluestone is firmly set and even so not really sure what DOT expects us to do that wouldn’t conflict with Landmarks requirements.

Nice shot of Pier 6. I see the schooner-turned-restaurant docked there yesterday. Any reviews from last summer? I was suspicious of the steep markup on food and drinks but maybe it’s the worth splurge.

I went once last summer for a drink. I don’t remember it being that much more expensive for a cocktail than anywhere else fancy-ish, and it was a lovely experience. Not sure I’d want to eat there, but having a drink was great.

Feel free to file this under Mildly Annoying, but is anyone else bothered that the TD Bank clock on the corner of Montague and Court Street is a whole 15 minutes slow? I mean, I always expect these sort of clocks to be off by a minute or two, but FIFTEEN minutes late? Not only does it reflect poorly on their brand, I feel like they’re doing the community a disservice. I wonder how many people have been late for an appointment thanks to this clock.

I suspect someone of your name and title carries a timepiece.

What specifically does the violation say it’s for? If the bluestone is firmly set and even, it doesn’t make sense why DOT would’ve issued a violation (regardless of material). Something doesn’t add up. Landmarks regulates the material, DOT regulates safety and condition – I don’t see how those are in conflict.

It’s set to Nova Scotia time.

A solid gold pocket watch. But still, how hard can it be to fix it?

TD is, after all, a Canadian institution (though Toronto based I believe).

The stones must be out of level, creating ridges that are a trip hazard. They can be re-leveled by a competent mason.

Complain to the branch manager. I doubt anyone here can help.

Thank you both. It’s always good to hear from local folks who know the “territory.” I may have to try it soon.

finally an answer to an old question about what’s up at Hill Country: https://ny.eater.com/2018/5/16/17361594/hill-country-food-park-downtown-brooklyn-nyc

I was told that a 1″ ‘slippage’ is a violation, for which you could site half of Brooklyn Heights. Any neighbors get same?

  • MaggieO

you can request a re-inspection if you don’t think the violation is warranted. call 311 to schedule a re-inspection. the violation itself carries no fine. if you don’t repair in 45 days DOT retains the right to repair it for you and bill you for the repair.

  • Cranberry Beret

1″ seems a reasonable threshold for violation – that’s an obvious trip hazard

And they are likely to replace the bluestone with concrete, in violation of Landmarks rules. One NYC dept. not communicating with others.

This should make the summer interesting. Wonder how loud it will be…

I think its only 1/2 of an inch allowable

I used up all my old BH Postcards, but here’s a photo I took of the former docks, back in the 1970s [Copyright Andrew Porter]:
