    Quiet day….

At long last, Key Food on Montague Street is featuring caviar.

Our neighborhood is finally a decent place to live.

Wake me up when they sell gold leaf. Until then I’m going to have to wrap my white truffles in cut-up bits of Francis Bacon paintings.

  • MC90

Does anyone know if there will be a christmas tree lighting on the promenade? If so, when?

It will be on Wednesday the 13th. I’ll do a top post.

Only a boorish oaf would wrap white truffles in anything. Jussayin. Respectfully.

Saw workers from the city’s department of design and construction measuring the bike lanes on Clinton Street the other day. Makes me wonder if they’re reassessing the traffic flow through that very congested corridor. My 2 cents: they should get rid of parking on one side of the street and create a protected bike lane in its place. I doubt they’d want to incur the wrath of drivers though.

Not sure how you do it but I take two truffles with every meal. The wrapping helps with digestion, otherwise they emulsify in the mouth and the dose of extravagant wealth doesn’t seep properly into the bloodstream. I guess you could always grind up your truffles and snort them, provided your straw was coated in an expensive enough metal.

  • DIBS

I think “two truffles” is a euphemism for something else and you just teabag them! :-)

I can’t carry this joke any further. :D

Well, I see I missed a bunch of stuff in the last couple of weeks. How about the charming New York State Lottery commercial filmed at the Penny Bridge Store, in front of the Danish church, and at the Fruit Street Sitting Area? Even if they call the place a bodega, it’s still a tear-jerker.

You can see this 1-minute commercial here:

Time for more BH Olden Days postcards. I’m starting to run out of new ones to post, but here’s another showing more aspects of the Hotel St. George. This one shows how convenient it is to get places via the subway station underneath. Four minutes to Wall Street; 15 to Times Square!:

Has anyone noticed the toys, model trains, and Hess trucks above the yoghurt refrigerated cases at the rear corner of the store?

  • DIBS

    Great commercial

Have you noticed what’s happening on the eastern edge of Clinton between Pierrepont and Tillary? Might that be what they’re concerned with?

  • Jorale-man

That’s possible. The workers were down by Livingston but I imagine the whole street could be slowed down by the construction of the high-rise up there for some time to come.

The subways were a lot faster in Olde New York. Why am I not surprised? Cool postcard.

My “Human” accompanied me on a walk over the Squibb Park Bridge this morning. I noticed the second span (heading towards river) has noticeably increased in “bounciness” since my last stroll over it, a couple of weeks ago. Anyone else pick up on this?

  • Reggie

No disclaimer that the four minute travel time is dependent on the elevators actually working?

When this postcard was created, the elevators and subway system itself were only decades old. These tiles are still there, but now obscured by the “modern” lighting:

Anyone else woken up about 4am by a chopper this morning?

  • Billy Beer

Agreed it’s a pretty good ad (albeit for a pretty shitty service), but why is calling it a bodega wrong? As far as I’m concerned that’s shorthand for a corner store in NYC, regardless of who owns it or where its located.
