Gosh, another BH postcard from the Old Days. Here’s the Montague Apartment Hotel, still there, but now condos or something. Click on image for full-size glory. The awning visible here has disappeared:

And another shot of Montague Street from back when there were streetcars along it:

A little sad to say, but this is Montague Street as it would appear in my mind were you to ask me to visualize it. It probably wasn’t quite this way when I was a child, but the general atmosphere hadn’t as yet changed. Well, the years march on.

Does anyone know why there’s always an ambulance parked on Remsen Street, between Henry & Clinton? It’s usually around the synagogue. Are they expecting something dire to happen? Or is just a convenient place to park?

EMS units have what are known as “10-89s” or “Cross Street Locations,” which are central points within their assigned response district. They can patrol the district, or hang out at their CSL.

Very good to know – that makes sense. Thanks for the info.

10-89 actually refers to the unit’s availability at the CSL, a status report, but I quibble.

Today, walking in the rain on the Promenade, I noticed that there were 15 love locks on the fence at the Fruit Street Sitting Area, and reported it to 311 and the BHA. Also, some jerk sprayed graffiti in blue paint on the flagstones next to the Astrolabe at the far north end of the Promenade. Phoned that in, too.

The Eagle did an article about the Promenade Gardens. The gardener noted that portions of the plantings will likely be destroyed and then restored when the BQE platform is redone. Article here:

That’s the last thing the Promenade needs right now. It doesn’t get a lot of city maintenance so it’s up to the decency of its users to cool it with the locks and graffiti.

I got an e-mail yesterday from Parks that they’re dealing with the problems.
