Subway Service Alerts: Brooklyn Heights and Vicinity

This holiday weekend, like last holiday weekend, the MTA hasn’t scheduled any major maintenance projects that would disrupt service at any local stations. There will be the usual station skips for those stations under renovation, and malfunctioning or non-functioning elevators (including one for the Borough Hall station and, unless they get it fixed sooner, one of the two for the Court Street station). Otherwise, apart from the usual “signal problems” and “incidents” that always seem to happen just in time to thwart your plans, things should go smoothly. Remember, though, that New Year’s Eve and morning are particularly heavy travel times on the subways, so expect delays and crowded trains.

Planned troubles begin 11:45 p.m. next Tuesday, January 3, when there will be no late night (until 5:00 a.m. Wednesday) 4 train service in either direction between Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall in Manhattan and New Lots Avenue in Brooklyn. This will continue Wednesday night to Thursday morning, and Thursday night to Friday morning. This means no service on the 4/5 platforms at Borough Hall during these hours on these nights. Although 3 trains don’t normally run late at night, they will during these times, and will provide service to all 4 stops from here to New Lots. The A and N should be running normally.

For service changes that may affect travel on other parts of the system, either during the weekend or the following week, see MTA Info or The Weekender.
