(Video after the jump.) This Saturday, February 13th, starting at 1:00 p.m., the Brooklyn Heights branch of the Brooklyn Public Library, 280 Cadman Plaza West, will host an English Sword Dance Festival. The event is free. According to the poster (thanks to my wife for the photo):
Sword dancing is a winter celebration that has come down through the ages from the coal-mining regions of northern England.
The Festival will feature both mystical, stately long sword and lively rapper sword dancing, accompanied by live music.
The video, by your correspondent, shows members of the troupe Half Moon Sword performing the Brampton Weavers’ Long Sword Dance on the Promenade several years ago.
