The question of the week asks what is making me (us) feel holy … or like losing religion. I can’t honestly answer. I do know that when I moved to the Heights 10+ years ago there were many welcoming churches of all different faiths. I chose Assumption Catholic Church on Cranberry Street for many reasons, but mostly because the priest of the time made it clear that “everyone” was welcome there. The new pastor is just as accepting so I have stayed!

@ Knight – i am a guy who is Catholic and attends The Unitarian Church of All Souls. The church has little to do with religion for me. The church school is a great place for children to learn about good deeds, volunteerism, etc. As hard as i have tired I can not shake the Catholic Church or the GOP.

Anyone know the homeless guy that sounds like a monk chanting “Can anybody buy me something to eat?” Well this past week I saw a kind lady bring him a bag of food. He looked through it, picked out just a bottle of water, and handed it back to her. She took it back with a look of astonishment on her face and walked away. I guess what they say isn’t always true, because some beggars can be choosers.

  • Joe A

Yes, this is the same guy that sometimes says, “anybody got a quarter or ten cents?”. He alternates that with “can anybody buy me something to eat?”

Lately his stchick is to appear to be rummaging through garbage cans, ostensibly for food, but if you watch him for a while it is clear he is not looking for anything but a handout.

As hard as i have tired I can not shake the Catholic Church or the GOP.

So you like dying, male dominated, authoritarian organizations that wish this was still the 1950’s?

  • CassieVonMontague

I will never forget that chant as long as I live, “Can somebody buy me something to eat…please?” or last year’s “Anybody have ten cents or a quarter, please?” I once saw a kind twenty-something man offer to buy him food from Duane Reade. The chanter asked for a box of vanilla wafers.

    Don’t be such an ass.

A friend who lives on Hicks Street near Pineapple said that she heard gunshots and then saw tons of police activity around 10:45pm on Monday night. Anyone else see/hear this and know what it was?

  • Joe A

Something else that Catholic priests seem to have a fancy for.

  • harumph

This guy also has a cell phone which he will answer when it rings…

  • harumph

It was actually a fight between a couple and a doorman…the police were called in and there was a motorcycle that backfired to add to the drama…basically nothing.

  • Gerry

harumph, do you know what the fight had been about?

  • GHB

Apparently, the couple had stiffed the doorman at Christmas, and he was less than pleased.

I was feeling generous one Sunday morning, heading out to watch football and I saw the guy asking for food; my boyfriend and I went into KFC and bought him a few things. When we offered it to him, he looked at us like WE were the crazy ones and told us to get that sh*t out of here. How nice

Anyone here live In one of the condos/rentals along flatbush avenue/gold street in downtown Brooklyn?? I’m amazed how much those apartments are selling for considering the location! terrible. very sketchy area and how do people get there? walk down tillary street? tillary street is VERY desolate at day and night it’s a very scary walkway. subway access? I don’t see why someone would chose to live there, near the projects, off tillary street! any comments?

  • GHB

Yes, I have a comment. You posted the exact same thing last week using a different name. And you know what? I STILL think that you’re Gerry!

  • ltap917

    Trust me. It’s not Gerry.

  • ltap917

What’s it to you where people choose to live?

  • David on Middagh

    No gratuitous had’s?

  • Charmant

I think it is pretty pathetic when we have to close a Library and post office because of Greedy developers and a neighborhood that cares more about high rent condos, etc. rather than simple and needed amenities for us normal folk..
