This Saturday, December 1 is a huge day for fairs. P.S. 8, at Hicks and Middagh, will be having its Holiday Craft Fair from noon to 5:00 p.m. The First Unitarian Church (photo), at Pierrepont Street and Monroe Place, will be having its Unifair from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Across the way in Downtown, Brooklyn Friends School, at 375 Pearl Street, will have its Winter Festival from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. There are other fairs further afield in Brooklyn that you can read about in Mary Frost’s Broooklyn Eagle article.
Also on Saturday, the New York Irish History Roundtable will conduct a free walking tour of Brooklyn Heights and Cobble Hill, focused on the contributions of the Irish to these neighborhoods. Meet in front of Borough hall at 2:00 p.m. Read more about it on IrishCentral. And the Brooklyn Historical Society, 128 Pierrepont Street (corner of Clinton) will present another tour of their historical building, starting at 3:00 p.m. Deatails here (scroll down to December 1).
The eternal themes of sex and death, with some great music included, dominate the programming at Brooklyn Heights Cinema, 70 Henry Street (corner of Orange) this weekend, with screenings of Anna Karenina, The Sessions, and A Late Quartet. Showtimes are here. Looking ahead to Tuesday, December 4, the Cinema will present a 7:00 p.m. screening of Dear Governor Cuomo, a documentary about the hydraulic fracturing controversy filmeded by Alex Gibney (disclosure: Mr. Gibney is a son-in-law of our lovely Montague Street next door neighbor) with musical direction by Natalie Merchant.
Bargemusic, at Fulton Ferry Pier, foot of Old Fulton Street, has a full schedule of concerts Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoon, as well as a free family oriented “Music in Motion” concert Saturday afternoon. Details are here.
The Brooklyn Friends School’s 33rd annual holiday fundraiser benefiting Horizons at Brooklyn Friends School happens Saturday (12/1) from 10:30am – 5PM. Festivities include a craft fair with 45 local artisans; holiday plant and wreath sale; book fair, children’s carnival with bouncy rides and games; a children’s craft activity center and entertainment by musicians and a magician. Free admission for the craft fair. All-inclusive tickets for the carnival and other entertainment are $35 and may be purchased at the door.
