Yassky’s TLC: No Moresky Offsky Dutysky Signskys

Brooklyn Heights resident/NYC Taxi Czar David Yassky is hellbent on bringing the city’s yellow cabs into the 21st century. His latest mission – 86ing their much hated “off duty” lights. The TLC voted today to abolish the lights allowing now for only two settings – available and unavailable. Also on tap – mobile apps to make getting cabs easier, a scheme that’s working in San Francisco.

As for those who want to keep things the way they are, Yassky tells the NY Times, “People still say to me, ‘Can’t you bring back the Checker cab?’

    Seriously? Now if you want to hail an off-duty cab you’re going to have to hail EVERY CAB WITH ITS LIGHTS OFF. Before, it was easy to identify them — outside lights was off-duty, but sometimes still hail-able, inside light was available. Now off-duty will be the same as a cab that actually has a fare. This sucks.

    Yessky (the third-term Bloomberg enabler) has to do something to pretend to earn his appointed 6-figure City TLC salary. Yeah, no off-duty signs! That’s the ticket! That’s good enoughsky, until the next mayorsky, comes alongsky.

    So, tell Mr. Yasky & the TLC that along with this change, you need

    off = “already hired”
    on = “not hired” (looking for fares, or “off duty”)

    There. Problem solved.
