Mockingbird

Another harbinger of a spring that has arrived early, this migrant from the South was spotted between Piers 1 and 2, in Brooklyn Bridge Park, resting on a branch of what appears to be sumac, with drupes. Click on photo to enlarge.

Are those the ones that sound like car alarms?

So far I have seen Grey and Red headed Woodpeckers, lots of Cardinals and Blue Jays.

I recognize the blue-jays because they sound like squeaky wheels.

    Thanks for the post !

This blogger has been photographing birds in Central Park and most intensively the Red Tail Hawks (Bobby and Rosie) who have a nest with two eggs on the ledge outside the NYU President’s office. There is a link to the NYT Hawk Cam on the R_B blog. Enjoy!

Looks like a regular pidgeon to me.

Yes, they have returned in the last week. We have a pair who nest in the ivy growing on the house next door. They go nuts whenever my cats are on the roof deck, but when the male is “mocking” it sounds like there are dozens of birds outside my window. Love it!

Is that what I hear in my backyard on Columbia Hts? It’s been singing to me for several days now.

they make a racket and are hard to take when you are
suffering from a hangover. I thought they are around
    all year.

  • Pierrepont

The lovely pair of mourning doves who like to hang around the back of the building I live in are also back. They are a sure sign of spring!

  • Hicks St Guy

Mourning Doves are also around all year.

  • stuart

mourning doves are best appreciated sauteed in butter and Marsala.

@Nancy: I guess I’m with Stuart on this topic. Are BB guns allowed on the tour?
