Mockingbird

Another harbinger of a spring that has arrived early, this migrant from the South was spotted between Piers 1 and 2, in Brooklyn Bridge Park, resting on a branch of what appears to be sumac, with drupes. Click on photo to enlarge.

    Are those the ones that sound like car alarms?

    So far I have seen Grey and Red headed Woodpeckers, lots of Cardinals and Blue Jays.

    I recognize the blue-jays because they sound like squeaky wheels.

    Yes, they have returned in the last week. We have a pair who nest in the ivy growing on the house next door. They go nuts whenever my cats are on the roof deck, but when the male is “mocking” it sounds like there are dozens of birds outside my window. Love it!

    they make a racket and are hard to take when you are
    suffering from a hangover. I thought they are around
    all year.

    The lovely pair of mourning doves who like to hang around the back of the building I live in are also back. They are a sure sign of spring!
