Brooklyn Heights Playwright is a Mainstay in Louisville

Brooklyn Heights resident and playwright Lee Blessing's new play Great Falls will open the Humana Festival of New American Plays at Actors Theatre of Louisville, Kentucky on February 27.  The play centers around a roadtrip taken by a man and his 17 year old daughter. The Louisville Courier Journal profiles him today:

Courier Journal: Lee Blessing's Humana Festival…: "You see a lot of marriages break up and then get blended back together," Blessing said. "This play is about the breakup of a blended family and what forces come to bear in those situations. … Nothing that happens in this play ever happened to me," he added. "It's the magic of fiction."

Blessing crafted his script with revelations that surround thorny issues. To say more about the plot before the play opens would disrupt the surprises that unfold at intervals in the play.

Blessing is best known for his play A Walk in the Woods about the relationship between an American and a Russian arms negotiator. It was nominated for a Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize in 1988. He first entered the Louisville festival in 1982.
