Two Heights Residents Join CB2

John Dew, Chairperson of Community Board 2, an independent city agency that provides local review of land use and other applications, the city budget and municipal service delivery for Brooklyn Heights and nearby neighborhoods, welcomed three new members of the Board, two to replace outgoing members whose terms have expired and one to fill the unexpired term of a member who resigned. Two of the new members, Hannah Scholl and BHB contributor (and confessed Republican) T.K. Small, are Heights residents. Both are attorneys. Ms. Scholl, who has lived in the Heights for five years, is a litigator with the prominent Manhattan firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison. She previously worked in an engineering firm, specializing in transportation projects. Mr. Small, a lifelong Heights resident, is a solo practitioner primarily working in the field of disability law, and also co-hosts “The Largest Minority,” a radio program on WBAI that focuses on disability news and culture. Ms. Scholl was appointed for a term expiring on March 31, 2012, and Mr. Small to a vacancy on the class of 2011. Both were appointed on the recommendation of City Council Member Steve Levin.

    Wow, I did not know that I had a fan club. This is a big responsibility. I hope that I am up to the challenge of being the fearless leader of such an august group. After all, I would not want to disappoint Ben.

    The idea of a return to Robert Moses’ ideaology regarding the second abduction of Brooklyn Heights’ borders led me to play Dylan’s ‘Highway 61 Revisited’ last night. The line from the song “the next time you see me comming you better run”
    is aptly turned. Although it could have read “God said to Moses” (instead of Abraham). I often turn to Dylan for a creative point of view when approaching the brink of disaster, real or imagined.

    My grand parents bought and lived in #5 Midaugh Street in the early 40’s. My father was a teenager there and my 2 aunts and 5 uncles came home on leave there during the second world war.

    Needless to say, when their home and all the others directly involved were condemed! and offered a pitence for the restoration done and considering its splendid location…well to this day my father still turns a whiter shade of pale when anything even remotely related comes up. Just imagine if this happened to you and your family! It should not happen a second time
