According to an AP story datelined this morning, yesterday a Coney Island lifeguard, Marisu Mironescu, 39, saved the life of a shark. He spotted a group of swimmers surrounding and abusing a two foot long sand shark. "Well," said Mironescu, "I wasn't going to let them hurt the poor thing." He swam out, grabbed the shark, and carried it to deeper water, where he released it. The shark played dead for a moment, then turned and tried to bite the hand that had saved it. No good deed goes unpunished.
