    Now for the bad new: My book MERMAIDS ON PARADE is going Out of Print. I am so sad. I plan to buy the remainder copies (100 boxes) and store them. I am looking for a storage facility that is reasonably priced, climate controlled and HONEST. Please let me know your suggestions. Thanks for all the support. I am still going forward in my career. Many good books are experiencing the same fate as mine during these sad economic times. I do not take it so personally and now I need to hustle to find them a good storage facility.

    @another jen. Thanks for the suggestion. On the street is not really my thing. I do various author visits at elementary schools, book stores, literature conferences and book fairs. Owning my less recent books keeps them alive while I paint new books. I am open to all school book fairs and would donate a portion of my sales to that school. I am also offering signed proof pages from Mermaids on Parade some matted, some paper as well as original art and my autographed books for the holidays. More to come……

    I seem to like the Extra Space on Flatbush Ave. Does anyone have any experiences to relate?

    What’s up with the Danish Christmas Festival? Is it going to happen this year? Usually it’s early/mid November and I am jonesing for hot dog with remoulade.

    Melanie, the most horrible thing I ever saw in publishing was a remainder warehouse near St. Catherine’s Ontario that had been a parachute factory during WW2, that was full of children’s books and YA books, all remaindered. Stretching on, endlessly, nearly to the horizon it seemed. Blame the IRS and the Thor Power Tool ruling back in the 70s.

    Most people I know who’ve bought their remaindered titles back have made furniture of them, such as a couch or a chair. Just throw a blanket over the carefully arranged pile, and voila!

    I wanted to add, Melanie, that I’ve still got copies of stuff I published in the 1970s. I’ve given away copies, but still have a few hundred here. And when I realized that I had an entire closet full of stuff that I’d published more than 25 years earlier, I put them down in the paper recycling in my building. There is being resourceful and hoping to sell things, and there is madness. The two are a knife’s edge apart.

    Thanks Andrew for the kind words. I threw black material over 18 boxes in the middle of my studio. Tied baroque-style knots and voila, new desktop! Hearing tales of our books makes me more resolved to keep mine in the public eye. Nowadays, authors must be publicists, it’s almost required. I know that I have a product of quality.
