Brooklyn Eagle: Joseph T. Dembo, a former correspondent, executive producer and vice president of CBS, will trace the career and contributions to broadcast journalism of Edward R. Murrow, one of America’s foremost reporters.
Dembo will illuminate Murrow, whom he knew personally, from his remarkable accounts of London under German bombing attacks to his documentary work on the “See it Now” and “CBS Reports” series. The event will take place at Heights and Hill Community Council on Thursday, April 19 at 2 p.m. as part of the monthly Speaker Series for Seniors.
Dembo joined CBS in 1960 after eight years with NBC News as a writer-reporter-producer. He is one of the originators of the all-news radio format at CBS. During his 28 years at CBS, Dembo was a news correspondent, executive producer of the CBS Morning News on the television network, bureau chief in Rome and Athens, and a vice president of CBS News and CBS Radio.
He served as acting president of National Public Radio (NPR) and was a member of the NPR Board of Directors for three years. Dembo has taught at Yale University, the Graduate School of Journalism, Columbia University and New York University.
Heights and Hill Community Council is located at 160 Montague St. Advance registration is required, as seating is limited. To register for speaker events for seniors, call Gail Otis at (718) 596-8789.
