Oof, which is worse: “No hand washing facility in or adjacent to toilet room or within 25 feet of a food preparation, food service or ware washing area. Hand washing facility not accessible, obstructed or used for non-hand washing purposes. No hot and cold running water or water at inadequate pressure. No soap or acceptable hand-drying device.”

or: “Filth flies or food/refuse/sewage associated with (FRSA) flies or other nuisance pests in establishment’s food and/or non-food areas.”

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg, it appears…

The description of violations are concerning but their “Spicy Miso Ramen” is incredible. I have had it maybe 30 times and there is nothing like it. What is a devoted fan to do? How many good restaurants does Brooklyn Heights have? (Felice, Incas Bar, Henry’s End, Noodle Pudding, Colonie, Clover Hill, ).
I may be in the minority but I will continue to support this excellent Ramen food spot because the alternative is just too upstting.

Their product is great but this is a pretty egregious set of violations.

Also missing from your list is Pips. Located directly next to Colonie and run by the same team. Absolutely as delicious.

Incredible tasting because of, maybe, mouse droppings adding to the taste? No way!

“Filth flies” gets me every time. gross. Even more than mice. A huge loss for the neighborhood if they cant get their act together.

Iron Chef is consistently satisfying too

For a gluten-free household (two celiacs), losing Siggy’s was a big blow.

The night Kogane opened, we ducked in with fingers crossed and asked the hostess if they had anything gluten free on the menu. She told us confidently that the entire menu, including all the ramen, was gluten-free. We were shocked and asked what kind of flour they used, then?

She went to the kitchen and bounced back with a huge smile on her face, to inform us excitedly, “WHEAT!!”

Yes, as if flies alone aren’t bad. These ones have a “filth” to identify them.

The hand-washing violation reminds me of the restaurant owner Poppy on Seinfeld (no stop at the sink after using the toilet).

How did it ever get approved to open?! I presume Health Dept gets a walk through before opening. Or am I wrong there?!?

  • Andrew Porter

I walked by yesterday, the 25th, and someone who works there was eating in the front of the place.
