The Repast Baroque Ensemble returns to Brooklyn Heights this coming Saturday afternoon, January 20 with “Bird Fancier’s Delight.”
Baroque composers were just as inspired by birds as birders are today, listening to the songs of nightingales, cuckoos, chickens, quail, and even the “dodo of love,” and incorporating them into their music. This program features works by Biber, Rameau, Handel, Walsh, and Couperin paired with poetry recited by the singer/songwriter/cellist Erin Hall, whose album Great Blue was inspired by her encounters with a majestic Great Blue Heron during her daily walks in Central Park.
The concert will take place in the McKinney Chapel of the First Unitarian Church, 121 Pierrepont Street (between Monroe Place and Clinton Street) starting at 3:00 PM. Tickets are $30 general admission, $20 seniors, and $10 students. You may purchase or reserve them here (with an added service charge) or pay by cash, check, or card at the door.
