Cadman Park Synthetic Turf Area To Close For 2-3 Months

Brooklyn Community Board District 2 informs that the Cadman Park turf area will be closed for an estimated two to three months to replace the synthetic turf, starting next week. The Cadman Park Oval Reconstruction is also ongoing. Reconstruction of the Cadman Plaza public restroom building is in the procurement stage. See more details of the project and updates as construction is ongoing at this link.

We’ll miss seeing the kids run around the turf and watching the soccer scrimmages. In the meantime, there’s always Brooklyn Bridge Park.

Awful timing. Where will the adult soccer players go? And even more important, where will all the children’s programs be able to continue this August and when school starts in September? There are often over 200 kids on the plastic turf each weekday afternoon.

The dog off-leash hours extend to 9am every day so the remaining grass space on the edges and in Whitman Park will be incredibly crowded in the morning.

The north field, I’m sure, will not be available until some time next summer, at the earliest, since when the construction is finished, the grass will need to be replanted and sustained. Although the replacement of the toxic turf is needed, it’s a shame that the timing wasn’t better coordinated.
