“Jane’s Carousel Day” This Saturday, May 7

(Click on “Read full story” to see video.) The Friends of Jane’s Carousel have declared Saturday, May 7 to be “Jane’s Carousel Day” celebrating the Carousel’s 100th anniversary since its construction by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company for Idora Park in Youngstown, Ohio. When Idora Park closed and sold off its rides, Developer David Walentas and his wife, Jane, bought it for Brooklyn Bridge Park. It now sits in the Park between the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges. The video above was taken by your correspondent at the Carousel’s first spin in the Park on September 15, 2011

The Friends of Jane’s Carousel promise that Jane’s Carousel Day will be “full of celebration and free rides for the community.”

I love Jane’s Carousel and recorded this video, as Claude did, on September 15th, 2011. It was a great day for Brooklyn and a great day for Brooklyn Bridge Park. This, in my opinion, was a great period in Brooklyn’s development with luminaries like Michael Bloomberg, Marty Markowitz, Regina Myer, even Tish James making a cameo in this film.
