The New York Press reports that City Councilman David Yassky (D- the Nabe) is asking the NYC Department of Transportation to suspend alternate side of the street parking on St. Patrick's Day. He says that 2 million people attend the parade and that they can use a break from moving their cars that day. The article estimates that the suspension would cost the city $1 million in lost revenue.
"St. Patrick's Day is a special day that is important to many New Yorkers—a day many people set aside as a holiday to celebrate their heritage. We should respect the widely held tradition of St. Patrick's Day and, while we're at it, give New Yorkers a little break from playing 'musical cars,'" said Yassky.
