Promenade Tree Lighting, Caroling and Shopping Wednesday

As you may have noticed, the Promenade Christmas Tree, located at the Montague Street entrance to the Promenade, is already lit (see photo, by your correspondent). Still, the official lighting will take place on this Wednesday evening, December 12 at 5:30. Carolers from the Grace Chorale of Brooklyn will be there to add a festive note. After the tree lighting, the carolers will make their way to the Brooklyn Women’s Exchange, 55 Pierrepont Street, where you can do holiday shopping until 8:00, and enjoy free hot apple cider and cookies.

It would send a strong message if the whole neighborhood came out for Promenade-centric events like this. I know it’s hardly an earth-shaking event and 5:30pm is right during rush hour. But somehow, city officials need to see that the Promenade is a big thing around here if there’s any hope of defeating the highway plan.

I remember how bone-chillingly cold it has been in recent years. I remember the carolers from Devon, England last year.

    Anyway, see you there!
