Even though it’s cold and rainy and hard to imagine summer is on its way, I can’t help but to anticipate my favorite summer event: outdoor movies.

As this is my first summer as a Brooklyn restaurant, can you recommend some series I may not know about? Movies with a View at Brooklyn Bridge Park is wonderful, of course. Are there any others in the borough?

  • The Where

any famous people live in brooklyn heights?

  • AEB

Now, where was the accompanying photo taken? Or to put it another way, where are the houses?

    Thanks.

looks like we may be living with an eyesore in our midst at 20 Henry:

    uhhh…teabagging? http://tinyurl.com/v1ow

AEB, the houses are on Columbia Place, near Joralemon.

  • AEB

    Ah, thanks Alex. I’m a provincial “Northie”…..

  • Publius

If 20 Henry won’t be happening, the City should buy it from AIG and convert it into a real middle school.

  • AEB

So what will happen with/to the people have have signed up for 20 Henry apartments? Are they and their purchases in limbo?

By looking at the trees, flowers and shrubs at the south end of the Promenade, the waterfalls don’t appear to have caused any permanent damage. Thought you might be interested…

I am looking for a tech support person for a home/office computer – someone who is savvy about the usual things (Microsoft and all its bugs) but doesn’t charge $100/hour. Anyone know of someone that I could contact for this? Thanks.

After what I had to pay to Uncle Sam, I’m definitely feeling as soaked as a tea-bag.

Does it annoy anyone else that people around here refer to our neighborhood as “the nabe?” I head someone actually say this out loud in the clark street elevator the other day and I practically gagged. :)

  • CJP

Peppermint be thankful that people feel a sense of cohesiveness to call it anything. There are many other communities in America where there is no sense of connection, no sense of cohesiveness and no sense of place. If that’s what people call it, so be it. I’m sure you, and other posters, can come up with something wittier, more convenient and catchier. Try it and it will stick. If “nabe” or “Heights” isn’t good enough try the as yet unproven “Bro-Ho,” “Bro-Hi,” “Bro-Beca,” “Brum-bo” or “Prom-bo” (as in Promenande).

Never a good idea to post after two bottles of Sierra Nevada while solo in front of one’s computer but I think I raise a good question. If not “the nabe,” then what catchy phrase might describe the neighborhood and wind up on a t-shirt?

  • bornhere

“Brooklyn Heights.” It’s only 3 syllables. Not that hard. The need to “cute up” neighborhood designations is getting sillier and sillier. Calling Williamsburg “Billyburg” is ridiculous — oh-so-hipster, but ridiculous.

  • LCR

@spm – My significant other does IT work/troubleshooting. He’d be happy to discuss it with you. We are in the north heights.

You can email: simonhood@earthlink.net to speak with him.

  • nabeguy

Geez peppermint, thanks for ruining my day. From now on, feel free to refer to me as “stupidmonikerguy” I’m sure a lot of people would agree.

  • alex

Peppermint, Ha! My boyfriend and I had the exact same reaction when we first moved to Brooklyn Heights. “Nabe” is so silly and drove us crazy. Now, however, we too refer to Brooklyn Heights as “the nabe,” albeit in an ironic way. Still, you probably wouldn’t pick up on our ironic intentions if you overheard us in the Clark Street subway station. =)

  • GHB

“Nabe” can apply to any neighborhood. Who cares? It’s not like you heard it referred to as “BroHi” or something stupid like that.

  • peppermint

Thanks for the responses. I just think it’s funny is all. I do agree with CJP that it’s nice that people take pride in their neighborhood and refer to it with cute nicknames. Even though I now live in Brooklyn Heights, I came from Bed Stuy so I still refer to Brooklyn Heights as , “the hood.” It is Brooklyn after all. :)

  • spm

Thanks, LCR, I’ll be in touch.

NO – I just returned home to the news that my outdoor lot on Cadman Plaza West is closing end of April. Is anyone else affected by this? I need a lot and can’t afford any more than what I’m already paying these guys..does anyone have suggestions for a lot in Brooklyn Heights??

  • Peter

Do some of you ever read your own posts, and want to punch yourselves in the face? My goodness, relax people, enjoy life instead of nitpicking everything!

  • justaneighbor

I agree Peter, but seeing as I’m the comment above yours regarding the parking situation, I certainly hope that wasn’t meant in my direction :)
