Bargemusic’s weekend begins on Friday evening, April 21 at 8:00 with pianist Lara Downes (photo) playing a concert with the title “I’ve Known Rivers,” featuring works by Ned Rorem, Samuel Coleridge Taylor, Margaret Bonds, Sarah Kirkland Snider, Henry Mancini, Arthur Hamilton, Jerome Kern, Frederic Rzewski, and Chopin. On Saturday evening, April 22 at 8:00, and again on Sunday afternoon, April 23 at 4:00, a string quartet consisting of Johnny Gandelsman and Mark Peskanov on violin, Yuri Gandelsman on viola, and Karen Ouzounian on cello, performing works by Beethoven. On Saturday afternoon at 4:00 there will be a free, family oriented “Music in Motion” concert, co-sponsored by the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy. Doors open at 3:45; first come, first seated.
