Nomination Thread: Best Eats in Brooklyn Heights

Travel & Leisure magazine’s latest issue lists its recommendations for where to nosh after a walk on the Brooklyn Bridge. On the Brooklyn side – Jacques Torres Chocolate, Vinegar Hill House, Shake Shack, The River Café, and Henry St. Ale House made the cut.

Which reminds us here at BHB, we should revive our nomination thread for best eats in Brooklyn Heights, first posted in 2012 by BHB’s beloved, late publisher “Homer Fink.” It’ll be a pleasant, fun break from all the Pier 2 drama. Don’t you agree?

In Homer’s own words — “The first step – nominate all of your favorite spots in the neighborhood (eat-in, takeout, breakfast, lunch, dinner) in the comments below. All types of eateries apply, we’ll break ’em down into categories for voting.”

We’ll add a new rule for 2016: Brooklyn Heights OR within walking distance.

We’re also looking to pick a winner for best newcomer. Which will it be – Friend of a Farmer? Kogane Ramen? Beasts & Bottles? Brado? Any others?

Comment away!

Having eaten at practically all the places in Brooklyn Heights for the last 4 years, I’d say the following:
Lantern is a steady favourite for Thai Food. We initially thought Pinto would give them a run for their money, but recently, the quality of the food has been spotty and really inconsistent.
Fortune House is the best of very limited Chinese food offerings in the area, though I agree that “best” isn’t really saying that much.
Italian – dead heat between Noodle Pudding and Sociale. Both very different places, depends on what you’re feeling in the mood for – rustic, family-style hearty meals, or more refined fare. The Prime Rib at Noodle Pudding is far and away the best beef in this area.
Pizza – sad to say, Fascatis is convenient but lacks the taste of Julianna’s or even Delaroccos.
Henry’s End is consistently excellent. Jack the Horse is good for brunch, but weak on dinner.
Japanese – none of the restaurants nearby are that good, and honestly, none of them are run by real Japanese people, except Hibino, which is probably best of the lot, but actually has mediocre fish but pretty decent entrees. Of the lot closer to the Heights, I favor Ani Sushi, only because service is warm and friendly.
Brunch – Clarks has the best food, but Park Plaza will always find room for you. Not too keen on Friend of a Farmer, their service always seems off, for some reason.
Honorable mentions – Hancos is great value and yummy, Gallitos is extremely good.
Haven’t tried BGood yet – looking forward to it.
