Pies, Helpers Wanted for Heights and Hills Thanksgiving Dinner for Seniors

In an annual tradition that has continued for over 43 years, the Heights and Hills communities come together every year to prepare a Thanksgiving feast for older adults, and the wider community is called upon to bake lots of pies. There can never be too many pies!

A Thanksgiving luncheon is held in Grace Church, 254 Hicks Street on Thanksgiving Day, November 26th. Volunteers are needed to bake pies, seat, serve & chat with the guests, and to help hand-deliver meals to those too frail to attend the luncheon. Many pies are needed so that each guest can take home a freshly baked pie.

The Cobble Hill Health Center cooks the turkeys and fixings. 84th Precinct officers help transport the food to the church. Hundreds of hard working volunteers lend a hand that morning and/or donate baked goods to complete the meal. Depending on the task, volunteers are needed between 10 AM and 3 PM. Those who can stay late and help with cleanup are especially appreciated.

To volunteer or to get more information, call Heights and Hills at (718)596-8789 or email them at volunteer@heightsandhills.org. On Thanksgiving Day, call (718) 625-8229.
