Former Alice Cooper bassist Dennis Dunaway will read from his memoir Snakes! Guillotines! Electric Chairs! at Monday evening’s (August 10) “Books Under the Bridge,” which begins at 7:00 at the Granite Prospect on Pier 1. He will be joined by his band mates in Blue Coupe, Blue Oyster Cult founders Albert and Joe Bouchard, to play some “full throttle” rock. On Tuesday morning, August 11, starting at 10:30, a children’s librarian from Brooklyn Public Library will read stories as part of a “Summer Reading Storytime” series. This will be held on the other Granite Prospect, the one upland from Pier 3. It’s also free, with no RSVP needed. More information here.
On Tuesday evening, starting at 7:00 on Pier 1’s Bridge View Lawn there will be a free “Shakespeare at Sunset” performance of the comedy Measure for Measure. There’s more information here.
The next Wednesday Night Tour, which begins at 6:30 p.m. on August 12 at the entrance to Pier 1 near the foot of Old Fulton Street, will be “Infrastructure Intersections,” a look at the “history of iconic bridges, subaqueous tunnels, rail freight, rapid transit, and an innovative cantilevered expressway.” The tour will be led by historian John Kriskiewicz. Guard your precious bodily fluids on Thursday, August 13 starting at 6:00 p.m. at Pier 1’s Harbor View Lawn, as this week’s Syfy Movies With a View free presentation is Dr. Strangelove. Following the movie, also on the Harbor View Lawn, from 8:30 to 10:30 members of the Amateur Astronomers Association of New York will set up telescopes for free public viewing of celestial sights.
