AltSchool Accepting Applications For 2015-16 School Year

Last fall we reported that AltSchool, a private school founded by a Silicon Valley entrepreneur, would be opening at the corner of Hicks and Montague streets, in the space above Heights Cafe and Della Rocca’s (the address is given as 84 Montague, but the entrance is on the Hicks Street side). The school is accepting applications for the coming school year for pre-K through third grade. Annual tuition is $27,500, and tuition assistance is available upon application. There’s more information here.

Another pay-through-the-nose enterprise. From the moment a kid is born, since public solutions are being erased as we speak, parents must insert their children into costly competitive systems which are redolent of elitist educational schemes. Then again, I can understand the frustration of parents whose options are squeezed to near nothingness. New York City is not the easiest of educational environments.

I should have qualified my statement – SOME parents must insert their children into non-public systems. Obviously, MOST parents cannot.

I submitted an AltApplication to the AltSchool for my kids, ages 7 and 11. I mailed in a hand-drawn AltCheck and the school rejected it. Go AltFigure.

This is great news for the Ps 8 wait listed children.

I am wondering if the new space is “Alt-Wheelchair-Accessible”?
