Brooklyn Historical Society Events This Week

On Tuesday evening, June 2, from 6:30 to 8:30 Sebastian Junger, author of The Perfect Storm and co-director, with the late Tim Hetherington, who was killed along with Brooklyn Heights resident Chris Hondros as they were covering action in Libya, of Restrepo, will be at BHS for a showing of his latest documentary, The Last Patrol, about returning veterans and the difficulty they have re-acclimating themselves to civilian society. There will be a Q&A session with Mr. Junger after the screening. Admission is free, but you must reserve tickets here.

On Thursday evening, June 4, journalist Pamela Newkirk will read from and discuss her book Spectacle: The Astonishing Life of Ota Benga, the story of an African man who was brought to the U.S. in 1904, used in an anthropological exhibit at the St. Louis World’s Fair, and later displayed in a zoo in New York. Admission is $5, or free for BHS or Green-Wood members. You may reserve tickets here.
